Anyone priced out shipping costs recently?

Holy crappola. What used to be $35 is now $40 to $60! :eek1:

Dimensional weight my behind. My 1 pound box is "11 pounds". Right.

I agree with you on that. That dimensional crap is BS. All they do at the stores is weigh it but I do all my own label printing which requires dimensions. I've not tried just taking the packages to the store to see if it is any different. I may once I get certified with FedEx.

In my experience taking it to the shipping office is no different. They weigh and measure there too. Just sent out a package on Monday that I anticipated costing $50, charged them $40, and paid $60. For a 2 1/2 pound package.

Dimensional weight + gas prices = :eek1:

I thought you were already FedEx certified? Didnt you post a thread last week saying you were?

I didn't get a notification or anything, I just know I sent out 2 packages anticipating $35-40 for each and the bill came (I do local labling, too) and it was $49 and $59 to just 1 to 2 states away. I started playing with UPS and FedEx price calculators and they are pretty equal. I also tried putting in the little bit smaller boxes and I may save $5 by going to a crappier box (uh...no thank you).

I just wanted to put this up as an FYI for people shipping out while gas prices are this high ($2.35-2.55 here in Chicago), be sure to calculate postage ahead of time before quoting. It's jumped for me by about +/- $20. I used to charge a flat $35 shipping fee since it was always around that price. Guess I can't do that anymore.

And yeah, this dimensional weight thing is not cool. I'm guessing it's just so they can ship by volume since they have X amount of space in the trucks.

When I asked them about the dimensional weight crap, they blamed the airlines. (WTF?) They said the airlines charge them dimensional weight for everything, so they're just passing it along.
I'd love to say what I think of this, but this is a family show, right?

I'm waiting for it to finalize. My package was finally approved back then which is a hugh step forward. Now I'm just waiting for the legal paperwork to be completed and I'm done.

In the case of FedEx, how can it be the "airline's" fault?

THEY ARE THE AIRLINE! Memphis Int'l is the busiest airport in the US (and possibly the world) because of FedEx.

Ahhh forgive my rant, I am just sick and tired of watching prices on everything climb except my salary.
