Since it was so beautiful today, I decided to take a walk around the property to see what I could find. Nobody was out sunning themselves, but while walking along the creek, I found this little guy. Can anybody tell me what he might be? I know hatchlings look different from adults so I'm not sure. He was in the creek on the bottom, and trying to burrow in the mud, so I'm thinking brown water snake maybe? Sorry about the picture quality. :O(

Holy Schneikies, Jen! I read the thread title.....and was expecting that it would be started by none other than Cooter!

We can see enough of the belly to tell it's not blue so your ID is in doubt. I guess it could be a Northern, but it would be an exceptionally smart one to move south and change colors.
 
...to move south? Northern water snakes are in her range.....that's sure what the picture looked like to me.

Do you think it's a brown?
