I've been building this cage for just about two weeks now~ but it feels like forever already!! I'm no carpenter so this is a real accomplishment for me!

Last week~ don't know why I waited until I got this far before I took the first pic~ but I did. It's a little over 6' long, 6' tall and 2' wide. Thats my good looking oldest son standing next to it

And this week, it's not done~ but much closer! I learned an important lesson today too~
DO NOT purchase a cheap brush to apply the stain thinking you can just throw away the brush when your done. The brush litterally fell apart!! and INTO my stain!!

Next I'll check it to see how many brush bristles are in it~ then install the doors (Clear shower stall doors) and the bypass lock~ then let it air out some and I can move Rico into it!

I can't wait to be done!

Sweet, Cheryl! What kind of monitor is Rico? (Blind stab I'd say Asian Water Monitor, but that's a wild guess) That's an awesome pic of him in the harness!

Thanks Zach~ you can't imagine how proud I am of it! Sure hope Rico likes it! Caging that looks like furniture is SO expensive that I finally just decided to try to do it myself. Not sure how much money I actually saved~ but I learned a lot! (Remember the paint brush tip!)

Rico is a black roughneck monitor. He pretty much hates us~ and especially hates that harness! But he has outgrown his current cage so we have been taking him out some for excersize on that harness~ basically I wrastle him into it~ then follow him around my house hissing and puffing until one of us gets tired. I usually get tired right after he dashes onto my carpet and takes a crap!

He's a neat observation animal though~ and I imagine he will be much happier in his new larger cage where he can just be observed again!
