Hi
I am brand new here on these forums, but have enjoyed reading a lot of the old threads.
I have learned a lot. I just today got my latest Cornbaby, a normal, female, just wee little. I used to keep corns, but it's been a while, so I need to refresh my memory on lots of things. I'm glad to be able to tap into such a well of knowledge here.
I need help naming my baby. I will put up a picture as soon as I figure out how to do that!
So long for now...
slippersmomma
1 corn snake
1 rat terrier (slipper)
1 (darned) cat
1 nice hubby
not nescessarily in that order

Thankyou!

Thanks Erin.
When I went to pick up my snake today the lady gave me a tour of her breeding "facility". (Her spare bedroom.) She makes these neat clips out of coat hangers to keep the lids on her enclosures. They work really well on glass aquarium tanks with the plastic lip around the top. I came home and made a couple for my tank in about 5 minutes. It's simply the straight part of the coat hanger bent at both ends to fit snugly around and clip under that "lip". I made one for both ends of the top. Looks kinda like this...

Keeps the lid real snug. And best of all its CHEAP!

Very cool!

Spare bedroom huh? Wish I had a spare room...all my snakes, mice, rats, chinchillas and my parrot live in my room with me. I do LOTS of cleaning!

Hmmm...I guess we can assume you don't have allergies, huh?
Animal lovers, sigh! hee
Do you have pictures up of your "ark"? I haven't explored the site too much yet, so I am assuming there is a place for pictures.

My Boy Friend and I went through the same issue with naming. we settled with Elmo. we went from Dionysus to nemisis, then damien ( the son of the devil) then girly names like "cupcake" ( not literally cupcake just cant remember...but odd names) we settled with elmo because the snake is red and so is elmo and i didnt want an evil name for my baby!

For some reason I like to name my snakes Fluffy, Fido, etc. and not my dogs. My dog's name is Slipper. Seems I have things backwards. Of course not because she's particularly "slippery", like a snake might be considered by some people, but she is named after the flower called Lady Slipper, a wild orchid which grows in the woods back where I grew up, (north Alabama).
I usually have to observe an animal for a while to find a name I'm comfortable with. My husband often names them by accident. He'll make an observation or a comment about the animal, and I'll take a name from it. Many times I've changed the name when this happened, because I liked it so much better than what I had decided on.
My little baby creamcicle corn I used to have got named that way. My husband is not into snakes at all, and could not remember 'creamcicle'. He said how is your little popcicle doing, so that is what we called it from then on.
Just ramblin on...
Speaking of names, I'm Robin, slippersmomma

Hi Robin!

I'm mary-beth and I'm pretty new here too. The people here are great!

I had my new snakes names picked out before they arrived, they are ozzy and sharon lol.
Can't wait to see pics of your babies!

Thanks for making me feel welcome

Thanks everybody --
I like having a place where I can talk about snakes. My friends are not into snakes very much, and think I might be a wee bit crazy.
I am feeding my new cornsnake today for the first time! I have a gal who comes into town to meet all her "feeder" clients, and she's bringing me 6 pinkys. So I will see what kind of eater my new baby is going to be. She has lain quietly in her new home since I brought her home on Thursday. I have not bothered her. I can't wait to see her again and hold her before I put her in the feeding box. I have friends coming over, so I might wait and ask if they want to watch. They sometimes do, but then will come a chorus of "YUK"s or "EEW"s. and they all go away. They are almost as much fun to watch as the snake! ha!
Well I have to go meet my "pinky connection"!
Robin and {insert name here}

Welcome Robin! Can't wait to see pics of your new little one, and see what name you decide on. Posting pics isn't difficult (taking pics is the really fun part). Check out the "How Do I" section for help in that area. And anytime you feel like talking to other corncrazy people, click on the chat room. It can get pretty busy in there at times, and it's lots of fun! I will also warn you...it's addicting, just like the cornsnakes themselves are!

Welcome Robin, we're all crazy about cornsnakes, so no question is a bad question! We love to talk about our snakes, and love to see pics of everybody's babies. You've come to the right place! :wavey:
