I find the safest way to transport is to use a rigid, insulated cooler. Then you don't have to worry much if it suddenly gets a little too cold or too hot - takes a while to chill or heat when the lid is on. If it is a fairly large cooler, you don't need airholes, since you will probably check it each time you stop for gas or food. Also, with a strong cooler, you won't have to worry about something accidently falling on and crushing your snake. And you can add a heat pack or cool pack if needed. We use a cooler on wheels (with drilled airholes) to transport all of our deli cups of snakes to all of the expos - works great!
