Branching out into geckos
I have seen a few Green Red Tail Ratsnakes for sale but I have noticed in a few of the ads that it says for experienced keepers only. I have been breeding corns for a couple of years now and am sure I could handle it...the question is do I want to? Anyone know anything about these snakes? Why they would be considered for experienced keepers only? I think they are very pretty, but I'm not really interested in something that will be a health problem or evil at this point.

Green red-tailed rat snakes get to be about 7 feet in length and have some very specific habitat requirements. You need a very high humidity level 85%+, along with a large cage. They're aboreal snakes, so you need branches for climbing.

Every care sheet online says that they are VERY AGGRESSIVE. I am sure the 'for advanced keepers only' has to do with their viv requirements, large size, aggressiveness, and their issues with eating mice.

Corns are totally different from some of the other rat snake species, especially those from Asia.

I'd find something a bit more mellow unless you want to deal with getting tagged all the time and misting the cage several times a day to keep humidity at levels around 90%.

Pissed off, nasty, mean snakes are no fun.
 
Also realize that most of those snakes are imports. You don't want one. They are notorious for doing poorly and dying, even with the most experienced of keepers. They do have a notorious rep for being flightly and bitey, although I've heard the captive breds with handling aren't AS bad. They definitely have more strict husbandry and cage requirements than corns, as Joe said. Very lovely animals, though. Striking. ;)
