This poor girl dropped 20+ eggs and then prolapsed. I get maybe one or two like this every year. Sort of puts a damper on the thought of going into breeding season wondering which female(s) will not make it through the season. But it just comes with the turf. It's not ALL fun and games.....

I'm really sorry about that. Poor girl. Thank you for posting the pic, as I have never seen a female prolapse before (people, yes---snakes no). Is there any way to save them for pets, or are they pretty much 'goners' when this happens??? :shrugs: --Sorry for the dumb questions--Like I said, never had this happen(fingers crossed).

did she re-absorb or did it stay like that? that is a tough situation to be in. i hope it worked out and she made it!

Sorry, but no it didn't work out well for her at all. I euthanized her. In years past I tried to save girls that this happens to, but the general odds were not in favor of a happy ending, even despite a lot of effort on my part.

OUCH! I am very sorry for you and for her. That had to be unbelievably painful, poor girl. I imagine someday I'll run into that but hope since my breeding numbers are so low that it will be years down the road if ever! Wow. Thanks for sharing the picture, I had never seen a prolapsed female before.

Ouch~
Poor girl...
Thanks for sharing the pics though~
Best of luck with the other breedings

Wow...that sucks!

At least if you look at any kind of upside....it looks like the eggs are good.

Were they?

Only reason I mention this is I had a female go that way this year and she gave me a pile of duds before expiring. Total loss!

Wow, that's aweful...I really feel for you there.

Is the treatment pretty much the same as for a prolapsed hemipene? -or is surgury required?

i dont understand what happend.... what is prolapsed????
See that pink thing? That's part of her oviduct (uterus) and it pushed out with the egg.

prolapse
The falling down or slipping out of place of an organ or part, such as the uterus.

OMG... yikes!!! How common is this? Planning to breed Treasure and my new male next year.. but seeing this scares me!

It just happens, Sometimes there is nothing you can do to avoid it. Sucks when it is your prized female.. I would think a prolapse can happen with a female that is a little small in size as well. Which is why it is not suggested to breed a smaller female until they have gained some signifcant size to them. Some people suggest 300+g's in weight and others suggest 36 inchs plus.

Regards..

Ohhhh okies... shes 52 inches now.. so she should be okie if size has anything to do with it. Is it possible for the uterus to retract when this happens? (I know it does in cows and cats hehe) Or be surgically removed? Shes my little baby LOL.. worried about stuff like this.

I've had it happen in both large and small females. No apparent rhyme nor reason that I can see. I figure I might get this to happen about every other year, as an average. So figure on about a 1 in 700 chance, approximately.

The production of young is a serious event in any female of any animal.
