I'm been unsuccessfully looking for one for awhile now.

I don't know about anything for NC specifically but here are a few suggestions.

Snakes of North America, Eastern and Central Region, by Tennant is one of the best snake books. (As a bonus, it also has a awesome paining of an Okeetee on the front by my friend Ed Acuna.)

Good general guides are the Peterson's and the Audubon Field Guides. They aren't as specific but cover most of the more common species top include amphibians, and lizards.

You might see if Rich has these in his FaunaBooks section.

this is from davidson's website. This site was my saving grace when i took field herpetology last year at ECU. I also recommend Peterson's field guides. They are great for the serious herper, yet laid out in a fashion that anyone can understand.

this is a good site to go to for information. There are some great people in there and really helpful. There's also 2 yearly meetings (optional) and field trips.

Thanks guys. Just bought Peterson's "A Field Guide to Reptiles & Amphibians of Eastern & Central North America" and "A Field Guide to Insects". I already have the Audubon Field Guides for herps and insects, but there is always something in one book that isn't in the other (that frog I was trying to identify for example lol).

I can see my husband now, you need 3 bug books because... :shrugs:
