Looks like a normal colored striped corn. They closely resemble everglades ratsnakes. Is it having a bad shed or is that scare tissue? If it was wild caught then I would say everglades rat.

That snake looks more like obsoleta to me. Also looks like it has some battle scars. I suppose it could be a striped corn, but I'm thinking rossalleni as well.
BTW, that is one sweet lookin stripe Jason

So, what is it?
a corn or everglades rat snake,
i've had at some pics of rat snakes and it looks a lot like one,

Aren't rat snakes a sub species of corns anyway?

Just from the head alone you can tell it isnt a corn and the size of the body and consistency of stripes in my opinion I have no doubt its not a corn, and yea corns are "red rat snakes" not too far cousins of everglades and yellow ratsnakes.

This one is a bit better, this is after the shed.
I've just sprayed him with a little water (as you can see)

I'm wondering why you sprayed him with water? As a general rule...that does NOT make them happy.

Lol, spraying with water makes them mad? Unless its a stream from a hose its just like rain falling, and thats what he knows to try to get his incomplete shedding off. Dagger, I am right about what it is. Im wondering why nobody else has hopped in to say their expert opinions.

Yeah, I notice a lot of snakes basking in the rain... they seem to really enjoy it.

I used to mist my snakes' vivs to maintain humidity, and at the first drop, they made for their hides in a hurry (That's not an expert opinion, just an anecdote...). Of course, each snake is different.

(Hopping out)

My snake actually likes to be misted, just a quick spray - he loves it, it seems to calm him down.
It must only be mine that this works on.

lineage? (sp)

Question: I have been very curious, and most of the reading just says that corns and rats are very closely related. But, referring to the statement above, is rat snake a sub of corn, or is corn sub of rat? what exactly is the lineage. :shrugs: I think they share the same genus but not species and neither one is a sub of either. Could someone clear this up for me? Thank you.

Well I used to know about this a while ago, but ive been away from the internet for year or two. Then I come back and corns have a new latin name pantheris guttata or something(have no time to look it up on here or on search). I have yet to find out why they have been reclassified and who, interesting stuff. Also kinda of rocks the foundation of what we know about all animals to me, what will be reclassified in the future? Someone please enlighten us :eek1:
