Newspaper pellets

What's the word on using that pellet style, compressed newspaper as a snake substrate in tubs?

I know it's great for mice, rats, rabbits, etc but in a tub system with corns is it good? Does it give off dust? I can buy a huge bag at a good price so I was thinking of starting with that in my tubs. I feed in a plain container outside the vivs so ingestion wouldn't be an issue.

Any input would be great,

Doesn't sound unreasonable given that a lot of people will use newspaper as a substrate anyway.

Only drawback I can think of, if it's similar to the wood-pulp cat litter you can get anyway, is when it gets wet (or pooped on) it'll swell up and turn to mush. Could make spot cleaning a bit of a pain.

Never actually used it ..... thats just my guess.

(Never used the cat litter as substrate either ..... just as cat litter)

:)

I wouldn't use it as a substrate for snakes. I've tried it as cat litter and it sucks. It absorbs moisture but the resulting mess is kind of fine and might be inhaled, also it comes in many different scents that could be annoying to respiratory systems, it is kind of dusty, and then there's this...

its a thread from a few months ago, but its got a really interesting article in it about Yesterday's News, which is what the product is sometimes called. I don't know about other brands, just that one. Its just like anything else....Some people like it, some people don't.

Thanks for the info all!

This stuff is very cheap and basic, no purfumes or anything. It's meant to be used as a mouse, hamster, rabbit, etc substrate so I guess it's OK for snakes. I'll go back to the shop and ask some questions. It looks very manageable as a substrate choice...and that's what I'm looking for with my growing collection!
