Im concerned on the heating i got a heat mat recomened by pet store he also said i dint need a thermometor but to the touch my snake feels cold !!! any other advice and sugestions on keeping him happy and healthy would be greatly appreciated
many thanks in advance
ste.
ps reggie is my snake's name and im sure he would thank u 2 .

hi and welcome ...your snake feels cold cause it's cold blooded ,my snake and my leopard gecko feel cold...im sure they are fine ...you should still get a thermometor the temps should be around 70-88 with a warm end and a cool end...mine is about 75 on the cool end and 84 on the warm side

Look for a new pet store IMO. I do not know of anyone with any experience that would recommend NOT using a thermometer. Unless you can touch the tank and know if the temp is 86F or 92F, little temp difference, BIG difference to the hatchling! Trust me, Reggie with thank you for being sure.

Ohh and ummm...... if the snake feels cold, it IS cold. Snakes will willingly cool down at times, but if he is cold while in the "warm spot", there is a problem.

hi graffixcs think i should look for a new store thanks for the advice much appreciated !!

i deff. think you should find a new pet store , but it might br hard because to to many are very knowlegably about snakes. what size tank he he in? the heat mat should be fine depending on the temps in urs house. you should get a theremotier. just so u always know the temp in the cage. 5 degree can make i big defrence to a lil snake. and most important.... what morph is ur snake? :grin01:

Keep in mind that if youre hands are 90 degrees F, anything you touch that is less than 90F will feel cool to you. Only things warmer than 90F will feel warm to you.
