Uth?

Can a UTH be put on something wood. The cage is a glass aquarium and i know your not supposed to stick to the glass. My question is, can you set the other side of the UTH on wood or do you have to raise the tank up a little bit. Thanks for the help! John

Actually you can stick it to the glass and i think that is what the instructions suggest. You are not suppose to stick it to an acrylic or plastic tank i believe is how it reads. I stick mine right to the bottom of the tank. Then on the inside of the tank i use the substrate (aspen) thickness to regulate how much heat is put off. This takes quite a bit of adjusting to get the proper amount of heat coming out.

I would like to note that you should use a thermostat or rheostat to regulate the amount of heat coming out.

I stuck mine to a ceramic tile and I vary the height of the viv above the uth to regulate the heat (usually propping it up on bottle caps or something of similar thickness works fine and you never have to mess with it again). That way, if I switch vivs (which I just did) I can use the same uth and not have to peel it off or buy a new one.

Thanks, everybody. right now i'm using heat lamps but i'm switching to UTH's because michigan gets pretty chilly. btw, i built a couple rhoestats to regulate the heat. Thanks John

People say not to stick it to the tank because if the tank ever breaks, the UTH will never work again. ive always stuck mine onto the bottom of the tank. i think that when the tank breaks, the UTH will be old enough so it wouldnt matter if i got a new one or not.
