Oak shavings?

Hey everyone i was wondering if oak shavings can be used as a substrate for corns right now the corns i have are on aspen shavings....but with the oak shaving i get for free....dad does some wood work and that so...is it ok to use or is it bad for them?

Thanks for the Help!

I would recommend against using oak shaving. Oak seems to display some of the same properties as pine and cedar, which contain some levels of toxins in the shavings. Oak also seems to be more prone to containing parasites, fungi, and bacteria. If you still want to use oak shavings, make sure to sterilize by boiling the shavings in water, then drying out. Hope this helps.
