Spray pesticides

need info on pesticides

I have been trying to search for info on using pesticides and have not been able to find out if it would be OK.

I did read in one thread about boric acid/sugar water soaked cotton balls for ants, but I don't know if that would work for other types of insects.

I live in an apartment complex and occasionally have problems with bugs. The complex does occasional fumigations and I remove all my pets when they do. However, I still have some problems with bugs and would like to be able to spray or have an exterminator spray around the house.
Would this be a problem as long as it is not done directly around the snakes boxes and I don't use an aerosol type pesticide(trigger type instead). I don't want to cause any harm to my snakes but I can't deal with the bugs.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Even if you can just give me the proper place to look, pesticides search didn't help. I could really use some help with this one. When I had snakes in the past I lived on a large property in the desert of CA so bugs were not a real problem, other than ants and your seasonal flies. I know that when fumigating everyone must be removed, and I can spray without harming the rest of the animals, as long as I move the birds to a different room until it dries. I can deal with ants and date beetles, but roaches and silverfish...naaah. But I am worried about it with the snakes.
