overweight

permethius

greatest golf ball ever
hello,

my snake permethius is almost round at the middle of him and its been 6 days from the last feeding does this meen he is overweight?

That depends on several factors including age, length, and genetics. How old is your snake, how often are you feed, and what is a normal meal?

im not sure how old he is but he is about 16 inches long and i give him one pinkie every 5-6 days

then what is the cause, i just handled him and the bottom of him seems soft like realy realy soft and squishy

oh ya he also has a scale on his head peeling off it is realy thin and it has no coloration does this indicate anything?

Bear in mind that if it's been six days since your last feeding, and the snake still has a visible "lump" from that, it's a rather long time to digest this one pink. I'd make sure that my temps are in line - especially if you're in Maine and aren't using a heat source to create a thermal gradient.

As for the "squishiness".....what's your "frame of reference" here? Squishy compared to the "dorsal" side? Lousy muscle tone? More info is needed, in my opinion.

regards,
jazz

i have a heater and keep it and 79-84 at all times and the squishyness what information do you need? his underside is kind of rounded and soft and squishy

Do you have a local pet store that sells corn snake hatchlings? Maybe you can bring yours there and ask to handle a few others for comparison.

The problem with bringing this question here is that it's almost impossible for us to tell if your corn is "squishier" than normal.....

Good luck either way!

Scott

I really, really wouldn't do that. There's a reason it's suggested that you quarantine your new snakes when you get them. Pet stores are notorious for not taking good care of their reptiles, and there's no way I'd ever take my snake or any other reptile to a pet store, handle their animals, and then handle my own without making sure my hands were sterile first.

LOL- Good Point, but I didn't mean bring it to Petco :grin01: This wonderful place is less than a mile from my home- www.thereptilecenter.com
I sometimes take it for granted that not everyone has this luxury

Allow me to clarify: Do you have a local, reputable reptile center that can help you with this problem? I think your only other option is a vet visit. If your snake is really bloating or experiencing tissue degeneration, then you have a serious problem on your hands, Hopefully it's just you not being used to how they feel....

It sounds like maybe he is about to shed? :shrugs:
If he is, then he could be holding his poop in till after the shed. That could account for the roundness and the squishiness.

can a snakeget bruised? because on permithius' ventral scales there are realy dark areas and sorry i cant post and pics because my camera broke :(

If you have so many queries and concerns, you really should take him to a reputable breeder or an otherwise experienced person for them to assess. They will be able to tell you for sure if the snake is unwell or injured or has skin problems and so on.
