Floor Vibrations

Hello All,

Today i picked up the female Okeetee my friend sold me. She is 2 years old and very healthy (pics in a few days). I have her viv,20gal. long, in the laundry room. This is the same room i keep my red tailed boa in. During the heat of the day the temps shot up to 85-87 cool to 95 hot. I do not have the uth hooked up. I know this is too warm for a corn snake so i must move her to another room in my house. My problem is that i`m limited to either the living room or the den. All of my house is off the ground except the laundry room. I`m worried that floor vibration from us walking through these areas of the house may overstress her even though the temps will be cooler. I`m afraid this might be like living through an earthquake from her perspective. I hope this doesn`t sound too crazy. Any advice will be appreciated, thanks.

I am willing to bet that the vibarations from the washer and dryer in you laundry room are alot stronger than the vibrations from you walkin

I also doubt that the vibrations will be that bad. Unless you notice other things in the room rattling and shaking then I wouldn't think it would pose a big problem.

As sort of a side not, just this week I had to put in a complaint because the person living below me turned his bass up so loud on his music that it seriously vibrated my floor, and I have 6 new hatchlings that I didn't want to be stressed. Luckily he has turned it down without a fight!

Hello Again,

Well, i moved my corn to the living room today. I took her out to make the move and she acted okay, a little flighty though which is understandable, but she did calm down a little. I know i`m not supposed to bother her for a few days after coming to a new home so please don`t beat me up too bad. The temps in the livingroom are much easier to control, the ambient temps in the room are a good 10 degrees cooler than the laundry room. As far as floor vibrations go my friend, the original owner, said that his floor is off the ground and it never seemed to bother her plus he had three young boys that ran around the house so you could imagine the amount of vibrations that this snake is used to experiencing. I will post some pics later today to let you guys see her.

My snake is in the middle of my second floor apartment where people walk right past. If I walk by, sometimes he'll stop and look at me and keep on doing what he's doing. Floor shaking might not necessarily make the snake think there's a earthquake. What do snakes do when they're up in trees? Trees move all the time.
The only time my snake gets freaked out a little is if I clumsily bump the cage or snap the lid on and off. Even then, he doesn't have a heart attack. I think it will be fine.

My amels are in a high traffic area and have been since I got them. They are in my kitchen/diner and as I have four kids there isn't really any "quiet" moments unless very late at night. They were originally on the floor but are now situated on a unit because my oldest daughter [21 months] took a BIG interest in thThey always eat for me and they are always out in the evening unless I play some good rockin' stuff then for some reason they both come out to investigate..I honestly don't think that anything has upset them since I got them and I also think that they, like most other things, will learn to acclimatise as they become more used to the different vibrations in your house that each day brings. Hope this helps some. V
