What to order from Rodentpro?

ratsncorns

Bird Nerd
I dont yet have a corn but I want to be prepared when I get him/her. It would be this years hatchling, not sure on size yet. I want to buy a bunch of frozen food but I am confused on what and how many to order. Rodentpro has like 3 sizes of pinkies. I dont know which to get. How much should I order so I dont have to order again for a while? I will only have one snake. Also, I dont want to order too many pinkies before the snake goes to peach fuzzies so should I order some of those too? Help, I dont know what to get! Thanks!

IMO for one snake it ends up being more cost efficient to buy from petstores, or somewhere local. After shipping and such.

I was thinking the same thing, but the petco here charges like $1.19 per pinkie. That seems a bit expensive to me. But yeah, there would be a lot of mice in my freezer for a looong time if I bought it online!

I somewhat agree with Rerat. The benefit of buying in bulk would be lost on a single snake. Because to make it the most cost efficient, to get all that it would take to maximize the cost of shipping would be a waste, I would think.

When you have to consider a snake doesn't eat the same size food for very long, ordering pinks in the minimum amount required is still overkill. You're going to have pinks left over, no doubt about it.

And lastly, by the time you do get around to using the larger food items, due to the fact that Rodent Pro does not vacuum pack their mice, most would be freezerburnt and well beyond ideal to use as snake food.

However if you're still wanting to buy in bulk, there is a Colorado based frozen rodent company that may be cheaper for shipping, as they could probably send it regular UPS/Fedex Ground and it be there in a day or so. A friend of mine in Ft. Morgan, CO ordered from them and said their product was decent and better than Rodent Pro's anyway. So you might give them a shot. They do vacuum pack.

You might also ask about smaller quantities. Explain to them your situation with only one snake and see if they can help you out some way or another.

Colorado Rocky Mountain Rodents

However, most of us justify having extra food by getting more snakes. ;)

I think I will take both of yours advice. After you put it that way Taceas, it would be better to just buy from a pet store. I was just unsure on how fast the corns grow and assumed that they would be on pinkies for a while. Thanks again!

Don't get me wrong, $1.19 pinks is highway robbery any way you look at it. I wasn't trying to convince you to not use a bulk supplier, just laying out the facts that remain if you were to. Hopefully it didn't sound that way

From my experience, buying in bulk never really made good sense until I had 5 snakes or more. Then it was cost effective enough to deal with it.

The only other way would be to hook up with someone in your area and place an order together and split it when it arrives. That way you both maximize the shipping, and don't have the amount that you didn't want in the first place.

Shoot me and delete this post if I'm out of line, but...

I'm starting to sell "Grow up packs" of feeders for young corns. The pack will cost $36 or $38 shipped, depending on size, and contains enough appropriately sized feeders to last a corn 6-10 months, depending on feeding rate. PM or email me if you're interested.

Zach.. :madeuce:

You stole my idea before me, you Stinker! lol

I'd been giving a friend of mine such things for her snakes for a little bit. Just never thought it was marketable. Not that it matters really, no dry ice place in town.

Frankly, Misty, I don't know how marketable it is. I'm just starting to do it, and at skin-of-my-teeth prices. I just think it's sad that people have to spend $1.25-$2.00 each for their PINKIES!
It looks like I'll be able to keep the prices on these packs -shipped to the midwest- under $1 each, which is at least something. :shrugs:

Yep, unless I was to share an order from one of the f/t companies with someone, I have to pay anywhere from 1.29 to 1.49 for pinkies or fuzzies, and then it just goes up from there. I think your idea is awesome. You could market it to breeders who sell their hatchlings at shows. They could sell a pack of mice with each snake. Kind of like buying a lifetime oil change package when you buy a car. Not that the pack would last a lifetime, but you get the idea.
