Crazy Herp Chick
hey everyone,
I know in my last post i asked about veegys and I learned they were strickly meat eaters so know i wanna know what about orange or apple jusie once a week as a treat?
just wanted to know. It's just so odd that my corn just eats mice and drinks water its seems so bland.
oh well

hmm

Well, I could be wrong, but I don't think a snake would have much interest in orange juice. But it won't hurt if you put some in there, so you can see if your snake likes it.

I don't think mice could be too bland; my snakes sure seem to love 'em! :)

testing... testing...1 - 2 - 3...

i have one corn, a snow, who wants food wherever/whenever, and he has become my test subject for the variability of a corns palate. he has eaten, so far, mice, rats, a gerbil, anoles, a spiny mouse, a young bullfrog, a leopard frog, an american toad, a longtail grass lizard, and a chick. i think that is it. i'd have to check his feeding record to be sure. he has even on occasion tried to eat me. corn snakes are definitely opportunistic feeders, but i wouldn't recommend this with any snake as i've heard that they can become imprinted on one food source and refuse all others. this could be quite expensive if they decided that the only food they wanted was, say gerbils. at 6 bucks a pop, you'd probably want to soon find a different food source.
this concludes this test of the emergency snake feeding system. we now return you to your regularly scheduled corn snake forum...

I wonder

Maybe you could buy one gerbil and freeze it and then thaw it on several occasions and rub it on a mouse or rat and scent it and then drop the gerbil back in the freezer. I do this all the time with anoles for stubborn feeders. You'd be amazed at how many times I have thawed an refrozen a lizard.

peter,
i know exactly what you mean. i have some stubborn variable kings and have been using the same anole to scent their food for a couple of months now. they don't seem to mind....

Jim,
I used to carve them up and put bits of skin on the pink(what a mess, not easy dissecting a little anole) and then found out that all I had to do was rub it a little and WHAM! They would take it.

mice a l'orange

If you really wanted to try variety with orange juice or some other flavors, you might try dunking the mice or fuzzys you feed him in orange juice or mayo, something like that, although I say good luck to you, because he may just not want anything different, but it could be worth a try...
