temp help!!!

Muggle

I can talk to snakes.
Hay,

Last night I got an UTH for my snow (I had been using a light). I'm confused on the proper heating and how to get it. I've read that the glass shouldn't be hotter then 85, 90 tops but even with my rheostat on the lowest setting the glass on the bottom is 92ish and the top of the substrate (aspen) is 78. Is this all right? Maby i'm just being a worried parent but I want to do everything right. :) Thanks!

p.s. room temp is 75

Thanks :) When i used the light it kept the top of the substrate at 85 and i wasn't shure of a temp in the 70's was to low for the hot side or if 90 would burn. I'm new at this (obviously) and just want to do it right :crazy01:

At 85F you are at the upper end of the "ideal" range. Just keep an eye on the snake and watch for burrowing in the warm end.

Corns are very tolerant of varied husbandry conditions. Good luck! :)

Sorry to bother again but . . .

Hay the temp under the aspen on the hot end has stayed in the lower 90's for the last few days. I just tested it tonight and it was 100.7. Any sugestions on how to make that drop? I can't figure out why it went up. :shrugs: Any help would be welcome i'm cluless. Thanks

You stated your useing a rheostate, turn it down a notch.

My rheostate is set as low as it can go. Actualy i just turned it off but it can't stay that way for long.

You could try placing folded paper towels in the Viv above the uth but under the substrate for now and/or place a ceramic tile at same location for a try.

Good luck.
