Last night I was playing with Narcis my hatchling ghost when I noticed that one side of his mouth seems to be gaping. It was hard to get a good look as he was squirming around but when I finally got him to sit still I comfirmed that the one side the mouth is closed like it is supposed to, but on the other side of his head there is a gap between his lips kinda like this ------gap-----. I don't know if you understand that but it is closed at the back and front but in the middle it's almost like it is buckling. If anyone has any idea what this is or has run into this before let me know. I am not overly worried as it doesn't seem to be bothering him but I am wondering if I should rename him Jean Chrétien. (Canadian Joke) But seriously just wondering if I should be concerned about this. Any help will be appreciated.
 
Sounds like mouth rot to me. Do a search on Mouth Rot and see if the thing you noticed on your snake sounds like anything simular.
 
Sometimes a corn with a Chretien mouth will have a Resperatory Infection. If everything around it's mouth looks normal (colour etc) I would hold it up to your ear for a minute and listen for any wheezing or gurgles.

Follow up

So I took Narcis to the vet today to see what the problem is. The vet told me that he has a lip/gum infection that is caused by A) a tooth being ripped out or B) a foot or something getting caught while eating and causing a tear. He said I caught it early and it isn't that bad so he gave me an antibiotic ointment to apply twice a day. He said I may have problems feeding but it should be cleared up in two weeks and if not to call back and let him know. So I am relieved that it was that easy, other then costing 62 bucks. So I will apply this ointment twice a day and hope it clears up
 
Glad to hear that you now know the problem and it is getting taken care of. For future reference mouth rot is a general term that describes just about all infections in the mouth of snakes.
