Thermostat Recomendations?

Can anyone here recomend a good thermostat to use? I want one that has no room for error. Preferably digital, and one I can set a specific temp too. I woke up this morning to find the warm side on one of my tanks at 99!!! GAH! Luckily the cool side was much much lower, so he had some escape, but still. That won't do at all. So much for cheap thermostats. So, I've come to terms with dropping some cash...but there's quite a few things out there, so I was wondering on what?

Thanks!

Ranco Electronic temperature control hasn't failed me yet - it's not like I've tested a bunch of different ones though. It came with my boaphile rack, has several outlets so you can plug in more than one rack or UTH. I hope that helps.

Yeah, I was looking online at that one. It was around $140, I think. I don't necesarily mind spending the money...as long as I know it's on something that will work and be reliable...not something that's going to konk out 6 months down the line.

I don't mean to sound cheap but my 9 dollar Coralife thermostat w/ probe has worked really well. ESU reptile makes them.

LOL. There's nothing wrong with cheap, my friend. I'll check that one out as well. I'm willing to spend more money on it, but likewise, would love it if I didn't have to! I have the Repti-temp 500R Thermostat...but you can't set an exact temp on it...and it's the kind that keeps turning the heat off and on...I want something that will keep it a bit more stable, and give me an actual number to look at. Big Apple Herp has one for $35 or so that looks promising...has a dial with actual numbers instead of the "low-high" line on the Repti-temp.

So you're actually looking for a proportional thermostat; the Helix DBS-1000 is a proportional thermostat. I went with Helix because I'm using it to regulate temps in rack systems heated with heat cable. Unregulated, the heat cable can hit 130 degrees, so I needed something I could really rely on. When I weighed the $150 cost of the thermostat against thousands of dollars in cooked snakes, it was a no-brainer.

For about 80 dollars you can get a Johnson or a Ranco that will give you 1 degree of control. You can get them cheaper if you are willing to wire it up.

Well, I'll throw my .02 in and echo what Roy has said. I got a Helix a little while back and it has worked almost flawlessy. It is a comforting feeling to leave home for extended periods and not worry at all.
My only problem is that at colder ambient temps it seems to be struggling at keeping the temp at my set temperature. That could be as much due to my set-up as anything. I still wouldn't trade it for anything.
