feeding schedule

rain_man

"It's Hammer Time!!"
My corn just moved up to fuzzies. The snake guy that I buy my feeder mice from said to feed him one every 10 days. Does this seem like a good feeding schedule?

The snake guy, is he a breeder or a guy from a pet store.
Feeding every five to seven days seem to be the norm here. But I think feeding weekly is fineand it's easy to remember what day to feed. Ten day is a stretch I think.

Good Luck :santa:

The guy is a breeder that opened a small reptile shop near my house. He sells smaller snakes and some lizards.

Not to sound rude but a breeder of what reptile in general.
I'm just trying to say that not all pet stores have good information.
This guy could be good. The ones around me I wouldn't rely on.
Ten day feeding schedule is for a older snake.

Every 5 days for pinkies. Once on fuzzies I go to every 7 days, unless the snake is very undersized or has some other issue. Adults every 7-14 days.

There are no hard and fast rules. Different people do things different ways and it works for them. But a baby snake, just like a baby human, needs to eat more often so it will have then energy it needs to grow. But you have to remember that many breeders only feed enough for the snakes to survive, not to grow and thrive. I fed mine every 5 days until they were a year old, then every 6 days for a few weeks. Now they are on a 7 day feeding schedule. But I would definitely feed more often than every 10 days.

Growth Rate

You have to realize that while feeding every ten days is "o.k." for the snake, it will drastically slow the growth rate. Some people consider a slow growth rate great because it can extend the life of your snake by a few years and also allow you to keep it in a smaller enclosure for longer. The slow growth rate also helps to prevent things like steatitis and obesity (not saying that snakes fed every five days are going to get those ailments, simply saying that the slower feeding schedule helps to prevent them). So, your feeding schedule depends on how fast you want your snake to reach maturity and while ten days or five days aren't going to kill your snake, I wouldn't recommend going any longer or shorter than those.

well mine are 3 years old now and from the day i got them untill now they eat every 5 days.. i have a calender i mark it off everytime... there not obese.. there just nice and healthy.. if u can afford to feed that often i would say its better then 7-10 days... (which saves money)
