For Carol... "Carol's Girl" and her Babies

Joni Garcia

Gotta love 'em!

Wow! Your collection has grown! I'll be asking for mice from you now. LOL. Any neat types?

Carol... You are definitely welcome to mice and/or rats anytime. I know you probably aren't interested in the rats, but the offer is there.

As far as mouse types... lots of selfs, merles (thanks to you), black tans and dove tans (not the best quality, but still nice), cinnamon, chinchilla, black eyed white, even marked, some frizzie etc. I bought the original dove tan Mom from the pet store. I wasn't there to buy mice, but just couldn't resist when I saw she was already pregnant. She's been one of my best Mom's producing about a dozen, big babies at a time. Wish I had some satins, long haired, and seal point siamese mice. Guess I should figure out how to breed the tans to get a darker tan color. I just haven't had time to look into that yet.

I have two 1.2 colonies of rats too (some of which are blues). They are so darling. I guess they make yummy babies as Rusty, Amber and Thistle seem to like either the mice or rats. I just CO2'd 18 rats last week. Of course, Rusty, Amber and Thistle are brumating now, so I'm just stocking up for later. :D

The mouse that sleeps sitting up when she doesn't want to be bothered was named by the kids... "Carol's Girl." Yep it's one of the merle girls you gave me. Unfortunately, the other one got a massive tumor and had to be CO2'd. Carol's Girl sure produces some darling babies.

Pictures are:

1. Carol's Girl and some of her babies.
2. & 3. Keepers from Carol's Girl - All grown up with their own babies.

Hmmmm... are mice shipable ???
I don't see the merles around here that often, and those being particularly beautiful!! It sure would be nice to get my hands on a few little girlies like that!

OHHHHH Ca'rooooolllll ????
You wouldn't by chance have any spare females running around that you could stick in my box????

Actually I have this litte merle female hopper, http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27645
I wasn't going to hold back anymore females for awhile, but this one was just too cute to be fed off. I don't know if she would survive the low temps like the snake would though. :shrugs:

Joni I've been trying to make a female like this one! http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=26771&stc=1
If you get another keep me in mind. Looks like the "possum mice" did OK except for the tumored one. And gasp!?! Black/Tans? I've been trying to get my paws on some of those for quite some time.

I just put together a hamster pair today, my first stab at breeding hamsters. I got the male and female from two different places the female is a sweetheart and the male is a little cranky pants, I hope his attitude doesn't rub off on her!

No problem. I'll let you know if I get one. Are you looking for the color combination? Head markings? or Both? Let me know and I'll check out the latest crew.

Cool... I thought there probably wouldn't be anything that you'd be very interested in.

Heading to Chico for the holidays? Or up this direction sometime after that? I have 4.4 black/tans and 1.1 grey/tans that are 15 days old right now. Both Mom and Dad are black/tans. Atleast one of the grey/tans in that colony is pregnant right now too.

My original grey/tan Mom, Dust Bunny (who's in with a different male), also had 11 babies that are only a couple days old.

I attached a picture of the Dad to the 4.4 black/tan and 1.1 grey/tan babies. I also attached a picture of a grey/tan Mom. I'm sure they aren't award winning tans, but I think they are pretty nice. You can definitely see the tan color.

You'll have to let me know how that goes. I've thought about breeding hamsters. We have a male, but he's quite old. We've actually had him for a year, and the girl who gave him to us (because she was heading off to college) said he was a couple years old at the time. He's really nice and loves to be held. He's an old boy about at the end of his life, I'm afraid.

What cute little mice! I love seeing what pops out of my colonies. I recently had a little one with wavy hair pop out in one of my mouse litters. I've never had any like him before. Sometimes it is hard to cull pinks because I want to know what the babies are gonna look like as adults! ;)

Edit: Joni, I have mice that look like those last 2 you posted. They are some of my favorites!

I really love my tans too. I know what you mean, Terri, I always wonder what the pinkies would have looked like. On the other hand... when they get bigger, I have to CO2 them while looking at how cute they turned out! Of course, Murphy seems to make sure the boys turn out cutest most of the time. I can only have so many boys... so, "fancy" snake food it is.

Actually I am headed up there Jan. 6-8th so I could pick them up on the way up or the way down! I would love some black and tans! And as far as the other one, I've just been wanting a brown (wild color) or brindle merle, the head markings are cute but not necessary. How exciting! I've been looking for Black and Tans for two years! :crazy02:

OK, explain these mouse morph terms to me! ;)

I know in Shelties, Merle (Blue Merle) is Grey/Black/White; in mice, I'm guessing that Merle is Grey/White?

I have a pair of female Black & Tans (didn't know they were called that), I picked them up at PetCo about 6 months ago to refresh my colony. I noticed their tan bellies and had to have them! :)

My other mice consist of what I like to call "Cow Mousies" due their patches of color on white! :)

Here's some pics! :)

Blckkat... Ohhh, those are all so cute. Very nice looking black and tan! I really like Butterscotch too. Merle mice are a mix of roan colored patches (evenly distributed white and any other color) and solid colored patches. I had a couple black merles which are black mice with roan patches. Some of the babies from "Carol's Girl" are considered Broken Marked Merle... they are white mice with roan and solid patches.

I attached a couple pictures of one of my Merle boys to show the black and roan patches.

Whatever's best for you is fine with me. I'll be here. I have a couple other things to chat with you about, so I'll PM you in a bit.

OH, I like the Black Merle too! I guess I should let my offspring grow up once in awhile. :) Swinging by on the way back would be easier that way I don't show up on her doorstep with mice! The last time we visited her was on the way back from Oregon so not only did I have some mice with me, we had snakes too.

Joni- That second picture of the white mouse with the red eyes is so cute! I love the scruffy look of them.

Those mice are so pretty!!! Long ago when I was a kid and wanted a snake, my mom suggested I get some mice - and then decide if I still wanted a snake. Of course I ended up with a male & female. I had so much fun breeding the mice and seeing what colors/patterns I got. I ended up waiting until college to get that first snake! :grin01: Then I only bred plain white mice as feeders. Not sure I could use those pretty ones as feeders. I'd love to pick up one of those pretty ones as a pet for the kids, though! :)

Preita - I like the scruffy look too. Dust Bunny, the original Mom, always looks like she's having a messy hair day.

Nancy - I noticed you are in CA too. I don't know where you are from me? If you're ever up my way (Manteca) and want one of the mice, feel free to let me know. I'd be glad to give you one for your kids.

Vacation Idea for Carol

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking too. Of course... will you know what to do if you're visiting her without a bunch of pets? Maybe for old times sake, you can plan to spend one day by the car taking turns holding onto the A-pillar. :grin01: :sidestep:

Sorry, but I couldn't resist. I know it wasn't funny then, and I'm sure it would be nice to have a less eventful vacation this time.

Thaks Joni! :)
I live between Monterey & Santa Cruz. I'm not sure when I'll be heading North - but I'll let you know if I will be heading up your way!!

Dust Bunny is a great name for her!! I had a mouse with longish, wild hair like that - he was my absolute favorite & one of the few that I kept when I decided not to let them breed anymore.

So...I had another cute (odd) mouse pop into my colony. It is kind of a satiny chocolate color. I didn't have my camera with me, but will try to get some pics in a couple of days.

Nancy... I liked the name Dust Bunny too. It just seemed to fit her. I'm so bad with names, and hate to admit that quite a few of my mice, rats and snakes are nameless. Well, unless you count names like Mama's Boy X Garnet. Just haven't thought of something I really like yet. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to it.

Cool, I'd love to see a picture of him/her. Sounds really cute. Wish I had some satins.

Now I'm going to hold you to it, so bring that camera with you. :D
