Here's a question...

I may just be a little a paranoid... okay I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm being paranoid.. just a little intrigued.

But Travis has been out a lot more than usual tonight, and although i'm glad he's getting used to me being around and not heading straight for his hide, he seems to me stretching himself to the top window of the viv a lot, and making his way up the sides, as if he REALLY wants to get out.
I've have been checking the temps and they are fine, I have only handled him a couple times, once yesterday (the first time), twice today, in the morning and about 5 hours ago, (this is when I expected him to hide again, but he hasn't yet)

Is he just VERY inquisative and just wants to go exploring or does he really want out? he's not moving quickly like he's scared or hating it, just strange how he's reaching for a way out a lot.

Any ideas would be great.

Humm it could be that he is just properly checking out all areas of his viv? He seems like a curious little character!

BOTH. Mostly, I think he's probably just getting used to things and exploring the new surroundings. If he can get out he will. Just make sure the lid is as escape-proof as possible or before long there could be one more "lost cornsnake" thread!

^^^ yup.

Standard practice really once they've settled in. Crawl up, under, over, into and around EVERYTHING until you find a way out.

If you don't find a way out, do a lap of the viv and start again ..... :)

So could you say this is kindof.. like a sign they've settled in then? and there's nothing to worry about? (I thoroughly checked that there aren't any means of escape).

Aw, thanks a lot, I wasn't hugely worried because it's nice to see him out, but it's definately put my mind at rest.
And its kind of cute too lol

I have a guy that does a nightly "run" around the tank, up the branches, through the fake plants & around the lip of the tank. I would say as long as he can't get out your fine to let him slither around as much as he wants :D Deffinately enjoy seeing him out (some people's animals never really come out!)

getting out...

i just got my newest corn, maiz. and put him into the viv and let him settle in, sat down and started watching a movie with a friend. so he was doing the normal exporing, like you described above, and all of a sudden he pops his head through the grate on top!!! this is a small grate! i know he's young, but there was a part of the grate that was bent a little and made a slightly larger opening! my boa's used to be able to escape from ANYTHING. they were crazy, but i've never seen this before! so, i fixed the bars with some pliers and watched a little closer for the next day or so. all seems fine now. so, my advice, keep a close watch on the small young ones! they're really good at getting escaping and getting "lost".

Recently my snake escaped on several occasions. Me and my B/F were trying to figure out how he was getting out. After 3 days of finding him and putting him back we figured out....those Exo terra Glass Viv's are escapable. the little hole at the back on top for the wires, if they can push it out of the way...they can get out. Now we have stuffed it so it won't move and put tape over it. I grounded him lol. Since then he has not escaped. But I keep a close eye on his viv every day in the morning and before I go to bed.

Lol @ grounded him.

Consider yourself lucky lol - my snake stays strictly out of sight, i bet when i am sleeping he starts partying or somethin.

i woke up one night and went to go check on my snake to find him zipping around the cage. im pretty sure my guy does nightly runs too :)

My take on it is that the more hungry they are, the more they explore the viv and search for food. They want to get past the clear walls of the viv and go hunt for mice, so they constantly push on the glass/plastic and snoop around. I've noticed that my snake becomes quite fearless when he's hungry.

This does make a lot of sense too, as I'm feeding him tomorrow, So I bet he is pretty hungry, It'll be his first meal with me.
He's finally gone under his hide now but he does come out during the night, was actually up bright and early this morning to see him also up bright and early :p
