You haven't given much info to go on, but I'd say a thumb-thick 3-foot corn seems too skinny to me... unless you have a huge thumb. As Prieta stated, weight would be a better indicator of proper size. What is your feeding schedule and prey size/type?
i use a mesh snake bag i got with my boa put them in tie the top and sit him on the scale.. He doesnt move once hes in the bag...
you could even use a pillow case.. make sure you 0 the scale with the pillow case on it first so you arent weighing 20-100 extra grams from the pillow case
