Good Lab Block Deal!

Bobo's Mama

proud corn mommy!
I just wanted let you guys know a good deal I got on lab blocks. I've been using Mazuri blocks for my rats and mice for awhile and got tired of having to buy a 2 lb bag for $6 at Petsmart. Soooo.... I went to Mazuri's website and looked up local distributors and found a great source. We've got a Double D (Purina) service center in town that I didn't even know about. I got a 50 lb bag for $20. I figure it should last a while.

Also, a funny story. When I take a bath at night before I go to bed, I let my rats run around in the bathroom. Its a big bathroom and they just love to get out of the cage and chase each other and steal the cat's food. Anyway, I have a 2 gallon container I use to hold the cat food, and the rat's are big enough to climb on it and then jump up on the edge of the tub. Well my hairless rat ran around the edge a couple of times, but fell in! She was a bit shocked :eek1: . She tries to eat the bubbles and then sneezes when they tickle her nose. She's my little clown.

I get my mouse food(Mazuri blocks ) at a feed store also. Its a lot cheaper but I pay like 21 dollars for 50 pounds.

Apparently our local Co-op is a Mazuri distributor, but I CANNOT order rodent lab block in large bags. Which is infuriating.

Instead, I have to order boxes of the 2lb bags. Which is still cheaper than if I were to buy 6 bags at a petstore, but still. Its a pain having to open a bag for each of my mouse rack levels and stuff.

However, if I had a monkey or a llama, I could order it in 50lb bags all I wanted.

There's another local distributor 30 miles away I still need to get in contact with to see if they could order it for me. But until I get better healthwise, the prospect of driving is a daunting one to say the least.

Either I need eyeglasses, or something other than what's in my avatar to occupy my free time.

At first glance, I thought the thread title had something to do with a litter of puppies - and not young rats, either.

Oops.

regards,
jazz

Oh the joys of the human mind! I can see your confusion. I sort of thought the same thing after I posted the title. Black Lab : Lab Block. Sorry I didn't find a good deal on black labs

What kind of Mazuri are you getting? I called all the local feed places in my area and the cheapest I could find the Mazuri for breeder mice(9F) was $26.93. I found the Mazuri for maintaining mice for about $22.

It says its for rats and mice that are breeding, which mine are. Its code 5008, although I couldn't find that on Mazuri's website. However, I did look on the bag and its from a company called LabDiet. Here is the link for that site with the details of the different kinds of rodent blocks they have. I think they are still associated with Mazuri because the company is based out of Missouri, so who knows :shrugs: , but I'm pretty sure the ingredients and Protein/Fat ratio is the same.

The Lab Diet and the Mazuri are both made by Purina Mills, but at different sites. The feed store I buy from switches the brands on me all the time. I get either Lab Diet 5008 or Mazuri 6F 5M30. Both are about the same in protein and fat and etc. My mice and rats eat both and production does not go down. The web sites are labdiet and Mazuri .

Taceas - Check and see if he will order the Lab Diet 5008 in 50# bags. They may not know the difference. I had a feed store not know that they were pretty much the same thing.
