Some questions?

Hey everybody, i am new to this site but have been on since i got my yearling about 6 months ago. I love the snake very much but i still dont know if it is a boy or a girl or if there is even a way to tell. I also have read about checking humity and misting stuff like that but never had. He has had 4 sucsessful shed since i have had him, so maybe i need some help with the whole humity thing still. Also if someone can tell me what kind of snake he is, cause i dont really know i just really liked his coloring when i picked him out. His name is "killah", even though he is a very tame snake!

It's hard to tell with such small pics, but my money is on an amelanistic. As for the shedding, hey, if it works, don't fix it. Good sheds (i.e., complete shed including eyecaps) is the best gauge for proper humidity for a corn.

Cute snake! Although the pics are a little on the small side I believe you have an amelanistic! You say you had sucessfull sheds, does that mean they came off all in one piece? If so, then you likely don't need to worry about your humidity it must be just fine as is!

Thats what i was hoping someone would say because you can see the eye caps and where the mouth was and the tail, so i am guess the humidity is good. and i have looked through some pictures and that was my guess, amel, but is that type real common cause there are sooo many different types, what is the most common?

Amels are quite common. Other common morphs as far as pet stores go are normals, anerys and sometimes snows. It kind of depends on the store. My local pet store almost always has at least one amel or anery, but usually has something less common on hand as well. I've seen blizzards, bloodreds, and cubes (normal cubes).

How about sexing my snake? is there a way to do it? i read that we they are hatchlings its is easy to sex but is there a way that i can tell which sex killah is?

They can be sexed, but I have never done it. I would like to learn. However, I think I will wait to until someone experienced can give me a hands-on lesson. I would hate to learn the hard way by trying to teach myself and end up hurting one of my snakes.
You can try to locate someone in your area who is experienced at sexing. Maybe a vet or experienced herper? :shrugs: I would just be sure you trust the person before you let them do anything to your snake. There are less intrusive/less accurate methods such as tail shape and counting number of belly scales. I would imagine you can find more about them by searching for 'sexing'.

o my goodness! what do you do with all of them? how do u house all of them? i really want more snakes? but i dont know if i could take care of that many, is it really difficult?

If you looked at my pics then there is one section called rack system something or other. They all live in there with the exception of a few that are in glass aquariums. Although the pics don't show all of them. I can't remember how many I had at the time of the picture.
Before I say anything else I feel I should say that there are actually quite a few members around here that have significantly more snakes than I do just to give you an idea of the numbers that some people keep.
I don't find it especially difficult to care for 11. It is a bigger responsibility to care for more, but the care is usually the same for all of them. Plus, the more experience you gain the easier it gets to care for larger numbers. And when it's something you enjoy doing it makes it a lot easier. I kept had only one snake for about 3 months before getting 3 more and then some more again and again! The only thing is that with my schedule I can't always give all of them the amount of attention I would like on a daily basis. That's just a matter of my class schedule this semester.
If you already feel like you want more than you will probably have more before long, LOL. That just seems to be the way it works with the corn addiction. Although, you've had yours quite a while and been able to resist the temptation. But now that you've found this site... :grin01:
If you've had yours for 6 months then you've probably got a good handle on how to provide good care, which is important before trying to care for several at one time.

Yea, i really want more as well, i just dont know how i could take care of all um, exspecially becuase i am going of to college soon and will be staying in a dorm. But i really want a ball python as well, but they just get so big i dont know if i could take care of them either? :shrugs:

I'd do a search on her for "scale count" as I remember a cool thread giving the formula for giving an educated guess on the sex by counting the scale rows from a past shed of your snake...

Your guy looks a bit big for what I would consider doing the "popping" method of sexing with so I would more go for someone who is experienced at probing...

Other than that in Kathy Loves book there are some good illustrations on trying to distinguish the sex by looks...

Thank you guys for all of your help i appreciate it alot, but i just have one more question. I think i have a 20 gallon long tank but it still seems small, i was wondering if you guys could tell me what u though of it. I have a hide at each side, a water bowl, and a branch for climbing. I have a UTH but i think it was too small because it wasnt providing enough heat, so i got a lamp for the winter because the house is usually colder. But does the tank look set up well, is there anything else i need, i kinda wish i had a bigger tank so i oculd do more to it, but tell me what u guys think...
