my snake on frequent car rides

eggshelheart

queen of hearts
I have been wanting to get a corn snake for years and now I'm ready. IM SO EXCITED!!! I just have one question: Can I take a corn snake on frequent car rides? My boyfriend lives about 2 hours away and I drive up there every other weekend and no one could care for my snake while I'm away. Can I take my snake with me? Should I? I know they only get fed two times a week...does that mean it would be ok if I left the snake home alone for 2 days? It would never be longer than two days but that still makes me nervous. I don't want my snake to be neglected in any way.
Thanks a lot, egg :wavey:

Welcome to the forums. As long as he is fed and has water, you can leave him over the weekend. Actually what would be best is for you to feed him right before you leave, that way he can digest while you are gone. Works for both of you, because you can't handle him for two days after he eats anyway, and he gets to digest in peace. I think frequent car rides would be rather stressful. These little guys like routine.

I know they only get fed two times a week...
Two times a week is to often once a week is fine every 5 or 6 days for hatchlings

By all means leave the snake at home. He'll be fine for two days as long as he has fresh water. Just make sure those two days don't fall on one of his feeding days. If it's a hatchling, they only need to be fed every 5-6 days, yearlings + need to be fed every 7 days. The suggestion to feed right before you leave is a good one, the snake wont miss attention at all while it's digesting.

yeah, i was looking at that and it made me think. i only feed mine once a week. sometimes 10 days apart. twice a week is a lot. anyway, that's not that this topic was about. i'd also say leave 'em home. your bf can get hooked by the stories you tell him, and he'll want one even more if you have one and he can't see it. :) i think the car rides would be a little stress full for them too. they like to sit and digest. i'd feed him and leave him for the weekend.
