Have any of y'all had a problem with different species of snakes being in them same room? I got two beautiful kings this week ('04's). While feeding my crew tonight I noticed that two of my hatchlings were really jumpy (literally), and one of my more piggish corns refused to eat. The kings DO have a rather strong scent about them, and since they are snake eaters, I thought they might be freaking the babies out. So what do y'all think?
 
Same room

All of my boyfriends snakes are in one room. He has never mentioned having any problems like that, he has had a few different types of snakes in there, now we just have a red tail boa, a sand boa, a Mexican Black King Snake, 5 bearded dragons, 3 blue belly lizards, a gecko and about 60 cornsnakes all in one of our spare bedrooms. I don't think it would be a problem, but I am not an expert!!!! I am sure someone here will give you some good advice! :crazy02:
 
I have an '05 corn and king literally a couple feet apart with the corns tank top even with the bottom of the kings, but they can't see each other. The corns favorite spot in the tank is in the back corner closest to the kings tank. There seems to be no effect...
 
I would think the kings would be affected too, smelling food all the time!
Corns is all I have so I wouldn't really know. I want to get a pair of kings some time but haven't even decided what kind, I really like the alternas and the mbk's from the pics I have seen - and the striped cali kings are also nice, it's a tough decision!
 
Thanks everyone! Here, and at a local forum, everyone seems to agree that the scent is not a problem. It was mentioned, however, that the weather/barometer around here has been a little wild, so that might affect them. BTW, has anyone noticed that kings have really stinky poos compared to corns? Or maybe its because my kings are a year older than all my little corns, so have bigger prey, and poos. I posted my kings pics under the Chit Chat seciton for anyone interested.
 
I have a visionarium with the middle divider, a corn on one side and a king on the other. So they share the same tank (but they cant see eachother) and I have had no problems whatsoever. The corn still eats normally. I think I read somewhere that kings and corns dont normally encounter eachother in the wild so corns dont recognize them as predators? Can anyone else confirm this? Could be why it is ok for them to be in the same space and have no problems. Not saying that king wont eat a corn, they most definately would if given the chance!

I did notice a stronger smell coming from the kings feces though now that you mention it kimbyra! Very strong!
 
Here in Florida, I'm sure kings and corns stumble upon each other. Kings do not necessarily seek out other snakes to eat over other prey. If they are hungry, then of course they will seize the advantage. Coachwhips are more of a concern to corns here. I have also kept kings and corns near each other without issue, but pick up a corn without washing your hands after handling your king.............. :nope:
