Thank you for your kind words guys.

They really do help. He was a great friend Roy, my best friend actually. This was all too unexpected. He died of a strangulated intestine, and we couldn't catch it in time to get him into surgery. I got so many responses when I posted pictures of him and his offspring, I thought I would share news of the loss with you guys.
This is a lot harder than I expected. I've had him since I was about 4. Its hard for me to imagine him not being there because he's always been there. But he was in severe pain, and the least I could do was give him peace. I stayed with him until the end, holding his head on my lap until he left... mainly so he wouldn't be scared.
It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do, and this is the worst death I've ever had to deal with.
Today, we are burying him on the property underneath a huge Mesquite tree. It was his favorite "chill" spot. No body collector is going to take my horse from me. I'll be able to visit him any time I want. The insert in the first post is actually his epitaph.
In my opinion, God couldn't have asked for a better horse.
