Temps in Tank?

I got a probe thermometer and finally tested my tank...

Water in bowl - 80.1 F

Heating pad - 115.3 F
(probe placed on glass above heater)

Air on warm side of tank - 88.0 F
(placed in middle of tank under heat lamp)

Above substrate on warm side - 92.2 F

Air on cool side - 74.8 F - 78.2 F

Too hot on warm side eh?
I have both a heat lamp and a UTH in a 10 gal.
 
As far as news print or cardboard goes, i doubt it would catch fire. However, if your nervous about that idea, try a dish towel or an old tshirt over the top of the heat pad on the outside of your viv.

If I read your other post correctly, you stated the temp on the glass was around 115 F. If you think about it... thats only slightly higher then a hot summer day.

Yeah , too hot you can place layer of paper towel or a ceramic tile over the spot until you can regulate the uth with either a thermostat rheostat.
You don't need to know the water temps or the air temps just the substrate.
The heat lamp is not needed too. But a light source is nice to have for affect and helps for your needs. Your using a thermometer with a probe right. If not get one.
 
You have a thermostat w/ a probe or a thermometer? If you have a thermostat, set temp on the glass to about 86. If you only have a thermometer, you'll need to get a thermostat or make a rheostat from a thread in this website; 110 is way too hot.
 
fwiw I put paper towels over the UTH and I have the UTH hooked up to a lamp dimmer. Hope all goes well! :)
