Ball Python vs. Corn Snake

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if I could get some of you who own ball pythons to tell me a little about their attitude and temperament compared to corn snakes. I have looked into the care and housing of a ball python and that would be no problem. A friend of mine has a BP that is so nice, but we got in 2 at work (pet store) that were some kind of nasty! So I was just wondering if someone who has a BP could let me know their experience with them and maybe post a pic or 2? Thanks

Thanks! So far I have not had much trouble with them eating. They wanted to eat live at first, but they are eating F/T regularly now.

I've been able to switch my first over to f/t and am working on getting #2 to accept f/t. I love their temperment. #2 had an RI and I had to shoot Gentamycin into his nose twice a day and he let me with minimal resistance. He's a tiny bit head shy now, but he's still as sweet as anything.

At my local reptile store I used to live I was interesting in a ball python and the employee said they're really good most of them have good temperament and can be handled and the ones I held were pretty nice and I don't own one yet I plan on getting one later on they are so beautiful especially the piebalds.

The only thing i HATE about ball pythons (wich is why i got rid of mine) is that when they get about 2 years old they WILL go off feed during the winter months for (if your lucky) 4-6 weeks, if your not lucky, 4-6 MONTHS. Its a pain in the ass trying tog et ball pythons to eat f/t. But other than that they are great snakes.

not to kinda get off topic; but noticing the fact that both ball pythons and baby corns can be somewhat hard to get to eat; why are they SOOOOOO popular and if a little kid has a snake it's one of those. i mean some corns can be downright hard to get to eat; what do you do if your an uneducated 12 year old and an uneducated mom - its not like a leopard gecko or something that you just throw crickets in and you don't worry about it. i can't think of a 12 year old kid buying a dead anole to scent a baby mouse or stabbing it through the brain to let the "scent" out. but maybe im underestimating people.

My ball python is soooooo sweet! Maybe I just got one from a good clutch...but she's got the temperament of an old dog. She'll just sit there in my hand, curled up in a lil ball for a few minutes, surveying her surroundings, and then she just cruises around on my hands and my lap. She hasn't tried to strike at me yet! I'm so happy she's so gentle.

She didn't eat the last time I tried to feed her, but it was probably because of her surroundings. I got new containers to feed them all in, and she probably wasn't comfortable. She and Majik have pretty much the same temperament. Both really friendly. I can't compare BP's to my other corn tho..he's poopy...

Anyways, I would recomend a BP to anyone who asked me!

thanks for the info guys! I appreciate it. A guy dropped off a BP in bad shape last night at the pet store where I work, so I have a new rescue BP. He is kinda skinny and was having a bad shed. I will post pictures when I get around to it! Again, thanks for the info!

We need pics to see what it looks like, and is it a male or female? Personality has a lot to do with it too...

LOL! Nevermind! My roomate just sugested that I name him Mouse! He is timid as a mouse and I think it is funny name for a snake! Like naming your dog Kitty!

I was told to start small and work my way up (even though the guy said he was feeding full size mice) since I am switching to f/t. I was doing the happy dance tonight when I got home and saw that the f/t hopper was gone! LOL!

The potential feeding problems are exactly what would keep me from ever getting a ball python. We have two of them at the zoo and they're nice enough snakes, but both of them go off feeding for months at a time. I honestly don't know when the last time the one particular snake has eaten - it was long ago enough that I'd have to check the records. We offer live and F/T twice a week and have tried every trick in the book, but neither one is losing a considerable amount of weight and they're both healthy so I guess they'll eat when they're ready. I've always maintained that if they were any kind of animal besides snakes, they would have been dead long ago from stupidity...both of them act like there's nothing there when we offer them food. And at least twice that I can remember, I found one of them sleeping on top of a f/t rat the next morning.

As far as the original topic subject, Corn vs. Ball Python:
Corns are crafty, but the Ball Python would win every time thanks to its seldom seen, but often used, ninja skills.

Thank you. Mouse is such a cute name.

Monty, my smaller one, is also eating f/t hoppers. I was as glad as you the first time he ate. But he only seems to want to eat every other week. I'm hoping that when it warms up he will start to eat more regularly.
