New adult wont feed

rockmonky

I'm normally impaired
One of my new adults a 1200g male wont feed
Obviously he had a good apatite his whole life
We have had him for 3 weeks now and he is not even interested in eating
I thought he was stressed at first so we gave him a week he still didn't
I got him a Sm rat tonight and he looked at it for a bit then took a huge dump
I figured it might be the season but he has no intrest in the girls
but i think the might be that the prev owner had them caged together
he failed to mention that and the 2 other males that were in the same viv
Oh yea feedings were live, prev owner said thats what he was feed before

Any thoughts or ideas
Thanks TIM

I really wouldn't worry that a 1200g corn won't eat. My guess is that he's not skinny at that weight and can go a while without eating. I had a 600g male go 3 months last year without eating at this time and others have had snakes (males especially) go longer. As for feeding I would probably feed a large adult mouse weekly at most. Or, if you would prefer, a small rat every two weeks. Just give him time to switch to f/t. It sounds like he has enough weight that a few missed meals won't hurt him.

I'm not to worried about him starving at only 4 weeks with out eating
It just annoying bring home a live rodent then he wont eat it
I had hope that it was the season because he has 3 lovely Lady's that he needs to do the nasty with
Thanks TIM

1200g sounds like an obese snake to me. Most of my adult males are fed one adult mouse or rat pup every 14 days, and they're in the 450-600g range. Anything more than that and they get fat. I would seriously consider decreasing his intake. It'll increase his life-span, I'm sure as well.

Are you housing all of these snakes together? *stiffens for the response*

THAT could be another reason why he's not eating. Stress from cohabitation. Doesn't matter if he was housed with other snakes previously, he's in a new surrounding with new cagemates and I know I wouldn't eat if I was thrown in that situation.

Sorry, cohabitation just really bugs me. Lazy man's way to do things and ask for an accident.

Along the same lines, most of my males will ignore a female if they're housed together for the entire breeding season. Housing them separately and introducing them on neutral ground every few days while she is receptive is what seems to work best for me. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, sort of deal.

I have them then separate vivs
I would NEVER keep them together
The guy i got the three from had the male and two females together and 2 other males so am a little peeved about that

I am going to give him a little longer before i put him back with any of the females see if he might just still be stressed

I tried a mouse originally and a rat today prev owner said he feed on both
