Hi this is a post really for the people that live in UK. I was just wondering if it was legal to breed grass snakes and if so where can you buy them from.
Thanks Will
Hi Will, read a similar thread on another forum, can't remember the details but am pretty sure you would need a license, as all uk herps protected by legislation. also know from personal experience that grasssnake musk is foul!
6' adults? LOL.. I have captured quite a few because I monitor grass snakes in Holland for statistics and I can tell you 6' natrix is very very rare. Here is an example of a adult male:
I did catch some large females but the biggest one I have ever seen must be under 110 - 120 cm. Most snakes that I captured did not bite me. They always musk (yuk!) but rather play dead that get aggressive. Even when provoked.
I do realise that 6' is the absolute top end of the scale but you never know .... it'd be just someones luck to get one and end up with a whopper! :grin01:
It's more the musking that would put me off. uke01:
