SnakeAround

Formerly Blutengel
This evening I was handling my sunglow mot '05 and felt a bulge exactly in the middle of her body at the place of her stomach. I think it measures about 6 mm (could well be the size of the skull of a fuzzie) and it's movable for about the same distance both sides, it is hard to the touch. It is not in the middle but slightly against her side which bulges a little bit, nearly visible. She ate 3 days ago and I think her meal should partially have arrived in the second half of her body by now, but since she is an amel I can see none of the food passed the bulge. I gently massaged it, it didn't seem to hurt her at all and the bulge got slightly smaller, but that could also be wishfull thinking. I'm not really concerned yet, but I'd like to know what the first step or steps could be when tomorrow it's still there or has gotten bigger. Is there a way to laxate (spelling?) snakes at all?

She doesn't seem to have any other symptoms of illness btw.

Tnx ia!

After 3 days, I would think a pinky would be pretty well digested. Definately keep a close watch on your little one and go ahead and schedule a visit to your vet for sometime this coming week. You can always cancel the appointment if the lump goes away. As for a laxative, I don't see any harm in giving your snake about 1/4 - 1/2 cc of vegetable oil to see if that will help move a possible obstruction. Hope it's nothing serious!

Well, it was a fuzzy but that should be further through also.... I was thinking of administering some oil. I'll check on her this afternoon and if necessary I will do so and make an appointment with the vet. If it's not out or at least has passed the day after I go see the vet definitely. Tnx again!

I saw something like this a few months ago. It seemed like a semi-hard bump, off to the side, and about the size you describe. It worried me, so I decided to keep a close eye on the snake. It was gone the next day, and she hasn't had a problem since. I'd take Susan's advice and watch the situation closely.

Today I was hardly able to find the bulge, only because I know it was there I did find a very small 'ridge' indicating where it had been. I had to feel really good and really put pressure on her belly. The food didn't pass but I expect it to very soon now!

Yay!!!

I am very happy that you do not need to make a trip to the vet!! I will keep my fingers crossed for a 100% improvement!!

This evening I saw some food had passed to her lowest quarter of the body so I guess nature found its way. Tnx for feeling with me!

I think I will apply 2 drips of oil today cause most of the food still hasn't passed the location where the bulge was. I think it will just help her out a bit. Normally the food can be seen in portions devided all over the lower part of the body after 2-3 days after feeding a fuzzie.

Forgot about that idea though I've read it tens of times around here.... silly me! I'll try that first, tnx!

Since most of the feed actually still is at stomach level I thought bathing her in warm water was not the right action yet. I think that works better when the food is already near the vent. I did put in a drip of oil with a syringen, which was easier to do then expected on a 20 inch corn... her jaws surely are not as strong as the ones my adult yellow rat pinches together when I grab her for her medication...

I did only have olive oil available, so it might have tasted weird... she was looking like "Oh my god what is this?!" and slowly moved her lower jaw from side to side...maybe she actually liked it  I hope olive oil is ok... didn't want to buy a bottle of another kind of oil just for a drip for the snake you know... and I assume Tai stir frying oil is not an option... :eek1: Now just wait for the oily poo.... I'm glad she only produces quite little poos yet!
