i know my snake poops. i can see a long black spot in her near her pooper but i can NEVER find her poop. is she shy about it or doesnt she eat it or something??

If your snake is a hatchling or so....most of the poop will be absorbed by the substrate, especially if your using aspen. So don't worry about it . Just spot clean what you can find.

Good Luck

I am using aspen, but i really don't see anything (black or otherwise). I understand that the urine would absorb but is it possible that after 1 1/2+ weeks and three pinkies that she hasn't gone yet? Or could it just be small and not dark enough to see anyway? I would figure in the cream color of aspen that something dark would stand out, but so far I have seen nothing.

Over the course of 1.5 weeks and three pinkies I would say she has gone at least once maybe more. Some snakes don't go as much and some go more frequently. Most of mine go 1-2 times after each meal. The first is usually on day two. If there is a second then it is typically on day three.

It is entirely possible to just miss it when talking about small/young hatchlings on aspen. I've got three snakes that are still pretty new to me (~3 weeks). They've all had about 5 meals and I've only positively ID'ed poop maybe 4-5 times (for all three combined!).

Corners of the enclosure are the most common places to find 'em. Also, mid cage at the bottom are the second most common place I find them. If it's a hatchling, I'd recommend using paper towels until it gets a bit bigger. You can then see/find the little treasures you're looking for. Since it's a new acquisition, you can also be sure that everything is passing properly, etc.

I am still learning.............hatchling to me would be a very young snake. Mine is maybe 6 months old or so. If that is a hatchling, please let me know. I have looked again today and not found anything, but to me, as long as she keeps eating then everything is o.k...........I will check the corners and middle like you said. Thanks again for your replies.

Of course mine likes to wait until I am holding her. She just went on my son's bed. My wife (who does not like the corn) was not too happy. :twohammer

How funny.

Isn't it cute that you get all excited when your babies poo? Then, after a while it just isn't so cute... :sidestep:

heh, once they start eating mice with fur you have no problem finding the fecal matter... the pinkies are almost completely absorbed so whatever comes out is small!
