Age of your snake........

Is there anyway to tell the age of your snake. I bought mine last weekend at an Expo and since it was my first snake I had all kinds of questions going through my mind to ask the vendor. I got pretty much all of them answered except.........how old is she. She is an 05, but other than that I don't know anything. If you measured length, would that get you within 1-2 months or so? I wouldn't think so because that would depend on diet it seems. Just curious, because it seems to be pretty necessary when dealing with a bunch of these threads/posts that you kind of know the age of your snake. She is eating pinkies and they go down pretty good without struggle but they also seem to be just about the width of her body. I would guess that she is maybe 12" long as I can't try to measure her because of the 5 days I have had her, 4 have been spent in her hide.......... :)

Just curious, any help would be appreciated. Thanks again.

There's no reliable way to know age other than word of mouth from the breeder.
Exact age isn't usually necessary for most things. If you know she's an '05 that is usually good enough. If she were big(ger) you might be able to guess that she was an earlier '05, but not necessarily. Diet and feeding schedule do play a big part in growth, and therefore how old snake looks (but looks can be deceiving for snakes).
You can feed prey items up to about 1.5x the width of the snake. If you can get a good overhead picture with something of known size (a ruler) in the picture you can use Serpwidgets' measuring program. I believe there is a link to the website in his signature area.

I'd bump up the prey items if its getting pinks down without leaving a lump. Or at least feed a couple pinks at a time until you can find some peach-fuzzies or fuzzies.
