Something isn't right with my snake

I bought my corn snake when it was no more then 12 inches, and I have had it for about 1.5 years now.

The problems lately:
His belly area has been quite soft then what i'm used to. He doesn't have a nice firm body like he once did.

He shed's in patches. He used to have nice solid sheds, but now it takes forever and I have to peel of some myself.

His poop doesn't look right - it used to be dark brown/black with white uric acid - now it's just a mess of light brown mush.

Please help me... not sure what is going on here.

His temperament is fine - I can still hold him and he seems to enjoy being out and active.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!

Hmmm, it can be a variety of things really. It would help to know what temps he is kept at and if you have recently changed your mouse supplier or the size of his meals. It could be a parasite, it could be bad temps, it could be improper meal size it's hard to say without more info. Do you use a head pad under the tank or a heat lamp for his warmth?

A soft belly has me stumped... anyone?

Have you tried upping the humidity before a shed? The main reason for incomplete sheds is too low humidity in the vivarium.

What are the temps on either side?

Ways to increase humidity include making a moist hide, 'misting' with water when the snake is in blue or simply moving the water bowl closer to the warm side, presuming it isn't there already.

How often has shedding been a problem now?

Is he still eating, and are the food items of sufficient size? (Trying to think why excrement could have changed here).

I hope it turns out to be nothing. A bit more info and hopefully we'll be able to figure it all out!

If there is shed stuck on the snake, you shouldn't just peel it off. Take a damp paper towel and let it crawl through that while you hold the snake firmly. It will help the shed slide right off and you won't risk damaging the new skin underneath. Good luck. :)

Carol is right on here....

Try changing the humidity for the shed problem. Check your temps. Did you change your food supplier? Some pet stores/breeders feed there stock bread, Old Roy, or whatever. The bad rodent diet can be passed on to your snake.
The change in feces you describe I have had before and it usually, not always, but usually means a parasite or even a worms. Worms you may be able to see in feces. Either someone else here will have a good solution or, take a feces sample to the vet. Try to eliminate problems one at a time, the easiest (temps, humidity) first.
