Visionarium update anyone?

I was wondering if any of y'all would like to update us on how your visionariums are working for you. I was thinking of getting some, (not for the hatchlings I know!), and would love some info. Are they really going to be big enough for adults? Are they good to deal with? Etc...

I have two visionariums and I don't like them very much.
I may just have a grudge against them because my sweet Ozzy escaped out of one, but...
There's also the fact that the bottom one has sagged in the middle making the doors hard to open and close.
Aspen gets in a tracks if you put more then a handful of it in, I keep an unbent paper clip handy so I can get the aspen out of the tracks to get the doors closed.
If you use the fluorescent light in the bottom one, the top one heats up - FAST.

I think they would be an OK size for an adult corn though.

Some time in the not to distant future, I'm going to take them apart and use the glass to make custom vivs.

How do you heat if you can't use the top light? Can you use a UTH with them? Would a UTH heat the one under it? They seem to have a lot of little prob's.

Awe thanks. It's been almost a year now since Ozzy escaped. I still have little day dreams where I find her out in the yard.

I used to use UTH's with the visionariums and that worked well. Now they're in my rack that has heat tape running up the back, that works well too.

One other thing about the lights. If the visionariums are stacked, you can't get to the switch for the bottom ones light. I rigged an on/off switch into an extension cord and plugged the lights into that.

I have two visionariums myself. I picked them up at a show in late January.

Pros:
Can put 2 snakes in one viv - there is a cage seperator you can snap in
I like the sliding glass doors, look good aesthetically
The plastic pan makes them easy to clean

Cons:
Humidity is very high in the lower vivs I have found.
Aspen gets stuck in the cracks where the doors slide
Seems to have poor ventilation, especially the cages on the bottom
With the cage divider in, it makes the inner door hard to slide

I would think that these cages are good for adults, as they are the same size as a 20L. But remember, thats just a MINIMUM enclosure size for an adult. I think that they would be good for smaller adult corns and yearlings. Honestly, I should have put my money into a regular 30L for the same, if not cheaper, price. What makes them nice, is the stackable feature, which is why I bought them. But because of the high humidity in the lower cage, I was worried about the aspen molding.

Here is my current set-up. I dont even stack them, but they still look nice. I have 3 corns and one cali king in the visionariums, and a corn in the 10g. I think I will end up using one of the visionariums for my king when he gets bigger, and put my smallest corn in the other.




As for using a UTH, thats what I use. I have one under each visionarium in the middle, so that each snake gets their belly heat. They work fine under them, but just like aquariums, I wouldnt stick them directly to the bottom.

Thanks for the info! I might just buy the 30L terrariums (or larger), then put the money saved from not buy the vivariums into a shelving unit, and just stack them that way. (One shelf each.) That seems to be the best bang for the buck, and without the additional problems.
I always thought that a 20L just wasn't big enough for an adult as well. I have one big male adult, and he's in a 55 gallon, sort of wide and long, and it seems just barely big enough. I don't know if he's extra big or not, because all my other snakes are '05's.

I have my '04 cornsnake in a Visionarium. There's too much space in the corners for hatchlings, I'd say. I was worried that Legoless could nose the door open as well, so keep a dowel in the track to make sure he can't get it open. Yes, the bedding gets in the tracks. It's also more shallow that I thought it would be, making it a little difficult to accessorize. They don't recommend a UTH, so I use lights from above. I'm not terribly UNhappy with it, but I'm sure not as happy as I wanted to be. I think it will be fine for intermediate use, but I'm looking for bigger.

We have two Visionariums that worked great when we used them. We have since gone on to a rack system and no longer use the Visionariums or many aquariums. I would still recommend them for a yearling or larger.
