Variety of Hamster pics...

carol

Down with the sickness
Here are some pics showing the three coat types of Hamsters that I have now. A "normal" on the top, on the left we have some sort of dilute gene... we call him the "ultramel", and on the right we just call this type the "dusty" gene because they have such a soft grey coat. I have no clue about these two genes except that the "dusty" one seems to be simple recessive. The second pic just shows the dusty coat a little better, although they decided to sit on the "ultramel". :)
Last but not least a few extra pics of our dear little earless sweetheart. I tried all the names suggested and none of them seemed to fit. My son has laid down the law and said his name will be "Popcorn", but I secretly call him stubs. :)

NOTE: No hamster handlers were injured while taking these photos, the ones in this gang are 100% puppy dog tame.

My girlfriend likes your red-eyed demon hamster. lol Nice looking hamsters by the way. She feels bad that there's a dwarf hamster in the freezer waiting for our Boa to get hungry.

I like the feeder pics almost as much as the cornsnake pics :) Those hampsters are awful cute.

I still like the Demon Hamster lol. :D

LOL. Ya those "glowing" eyes look scary. They don't look like that at all in person, I guess flash on something that already had red eyes = super red eye. I tried to get a pic with out the glow but failed. I guess the only way I could have done it is to take a pic without flash, but with hamsters that is pretty much out of the question. I'm sure I'd just end up with pics with some sort of crazy yellow blur. :)
It's really ironic that the pics make him look like something out of a horror movie, he really is the sweetest thing. I think if my siblings had chewed my ears off I'd have a much more bitter outlook on life than this fellow. But that's why we love animals so much!

I didn't know corns can feed on hamsters!

I must be dumb, i want to breed my own feeder stock but nowhere near me sell mice, well only special sorts at £14quid a time!

Can get hamster for 3quid everywhere though.

Are they reccommended? ie, there's nothing wrong with feeding my snakes hamsters?

I don't think there's anything wrong with feeding corns hamsters. A hamster is just another kind of rodent. It would be like comparing people who eat chicken and people eat turkey. Although I don't think a hamster pinky is small enough for a tiny hatchling. Am I right Carol? I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure that hamster pinks are bigger than mouse pinks when first born.

Plus Becky. I also heard that hamsters shouldn't be made a staple food diget, sue to something about toxins in the spine. or is that Gerbils? But anyways I onnly give my snake Hamster as a treat.

I don't know anything about toxins in their spine, I'll have to look that up. I breed Siberian Dwarf Hamsters and their pinks are the same size as mice pinks. I'm am breeding them for pinks only to help with the fussy feeders that come about in hatching season. I have yet to feed an older one off. Besides, once they get hair they are just too darn cute! My biggest concern would be feeding live, I definitly wouldn't recommend that, they have some wicked choppers, even the little ones.
