Hi,
We have a very happy, healthy, sweet little boy. He is a sunkissed corn snake and is now 2 feet 6 inches long and is 8 months old. Up to this point he has been housed in a glass aquarium which by the way has been horrible to regulate temperature in, but we are just about finished with building our wall bed in which he will be housed in a portion of. Basically it is a wall of bookshelves with the bed inset into the middle to make the explanation a little move visual.
Anyway it is made out of MDF and we will have a glass front on sliding track with lock. The inside we intend to use a stone look, vinyl floor on for easy clean up. We are stuck on how to find and what to use as a reliable heating source and a way to keep that heating source constant.
I have found the site for the Pro-Heat Radiant Heat Panels and was considering this as an option but what type of thermostat? Do I create a night time and day time differential or do you keep yours at a constant temp. all the time? I don't want to use heat lamps or head pads. We tried the heat pads and not enough heat was getting to him, more was escaping than getting where it belonged. The heatlamps require constant bulb changes and if we are gone when one goes out then he sets there for hours cold.
I feel the heat panel rids me of all those problems and keeps him safe and comfy but I just don't know for sure and I know nothing about thermostats. Can you all give me some advice. I would like to get his home complete and get him all snuggled in to a place he can call a forever home.
Thanks,
Oh and if it helps his home will measure: 14 ¾ (D) x 17 ¾ (H) x 46 (L)
and yeah I know it is big, but he already has a huge glass tank we want him out of and he really likes the space so we are trying to accomodate his likes. Seems kind of silly considering he wants to be out playing all the time but he enjoys the space and dislikes smaller cages - trust me we tried sighh lol
