Can a tank be too large?

So, I have a shelf on top of my desk that measures 4ft x 1 ft. I was thinking it would look really nice to build a wood cage to match the wood desk (or get one built...no time!) that ran the entire lenght of that shelf.

I've read that if a tank is too large, a snake can become nervous. Do you think a tank of that size (full of decor and multiple hides AND platfroms to choose from...yes, I like to spoil my pets) would be TOO large for a corn (or ratsnake, depending on who ultimately lives in there).

I know my corn loves to climb when she explores...so would 18-24" tall be okay, if there are lots of branches...or again, does the cage sound too big? I could certainly always put in a solid divider...and have TWO snakes!...but if one snake would enjoy that much space, I would gladly give it to it.

I dont think 4x1 would be to big. A 20g is about 2 feet and a few inches long, and about a 1 foot wide, so I dont see a 4 footer being TOO big, but dont take my word for it. haha

im getting a viv thats either 4x3x2 if that helps or a 4x4x2, i doubt you can get to big, just make hides, and you had the sam eidea as me, build allot of platforms!!

It would be okay, but if you had a removable divider, you could have two young snakes in there. When they get to be older, you can take the divider out and have a nice sized home for one of them. I'm thinking about doing something like that myself. Like potato chips, who can have just one corn anyway.

i'd divide it in two for two young snakes and when they got older i'd remove the divider and have one large tank for one snake and then get another tank for the other.
corns can get big....there's some examples of some big'uns in the photo gallery. so i'd think the bigger the better for the adults.

Hehehehe...well, unfortunatly, getting anouther one isn't an option at the moment. I currently have a corn and a leucy texas rat. The corn is housed in a 30 gallon (she's about 2 years old and still growing apparently...and I'm just assuming at this point that she's a she based on tail shape...I've yet to get her probed). So, the big, new tank would be all hers. The leucy is still a baby...he's in a 10 gallon, and when he outgrows that, he will get my corn's old tank...for the time being.

Truuuust me, I'd LOVE to divide the new tank and get anouther baaaby, but when it got larger, I really dont have anywhere to put anouther 20 or 30 gallon. Sigh. Wish I did...hehehehe.

If there's a will to get more corns then there's a way . I think those dimintions sound just fine. One of my babies has been in a 20L since day one. I just gave him a lot of hides (seven to be exact lol). Have fun with your project!
