Not Drinking.........

This might sound like a stupid question, but how do you know if your snake is drinking water or not? I have never physically seen her at the bowl unless I put her head in that direction while letting her back in the cage. And even then, she takes off like it's attacking her. Seems that she has nothing to do with it, but I can tell the water level seems to be getting lower (I have come to think that's from evaporation). I guess that maybe she just drinks at night or something. :shrugs:

She is eating fine though, just this last Thurs night I went from 1 pink to 2 (1 small-1 large) and they were both gone within 5 minutes. Just curious.

That is a great question. Mine does the same thing and I was always wondering.

I used to worry about this but the fact is, if they have water they will drink it when they need to. Eventually you will see your snake drinking. They just do not drink as often as you would think, kind of like humans.

I would put my snake right in front of the water bowl and get his head right above it sometimes. He sometimes would take one little sip and then quit or other times he'd drink much more. I would try putting his head right in front of the water, and let him smell it. He might just go for it if he feels safe.

Correct me if I am wrong, but snakes who are drinking are very vulnerable to predators in the wild. They will only want to drink when the feel safe and secure, which is probably at night.

If your snake doesn't look wrinkled and dehydrated, it is probably drinking. I'd had mine for several months before I ever saw them drink. If you haven't already done so, put the water bowl next to the wall of your tank. Snakes tend to cruise the perimeter of their habitat, so she will be more likely to encounter her water this way.

yes, i keep it in the corner and she has gone between the bowl and the wall many times but have never seen her actually drink. when i do put her back in the tank and guide her head towards the bowl, i even try and "put her face in it" so to speak. just seems like she doesn't like it, but i guess since she is eating fine and growing i will leave well enough alone. thanks guys.

You may have a water bowl that is too tall for her to get in. I dont know how big she is, but make sure she can easily climb in and out of the bowl. I wouldn't be too concerned though, she most like ly is drinking, you just dont see it.
