Female Ghost Breaks Fast

One of my '03 female ghosts just ate an f/t today after refusing everything for 7 weeks. She last ate on 2/27. I tried a live on her a few weeks ago, and she killed it, but she didn't eat it. She'd shed in that time frame, her weight was good, and she appeared very active and healthy, so I tried not to worry. But I must have checked her tail shape fifty times in those 7 weeks. "Nope, that's no tweener; that's a girl."

I'm only posting this so that other keepers can see that these things happen, and that 7 weeks is not that big a deal for a corn, even for a small adult. :)

Maybe she decided she needed to lose weight.... did you allow her to watch tv shows with very slim modelling snakeys? Come on, you can tell..... :grin01: :grin01:

This girl certainly didn't need to lose any weight. She double-clutched for the breeder last year, and she couldn't have weighed much more than 100g when I got her in November. :realhot: I got her to 250g before the fast, but she was still Kate-Moss-slender. She lost about 15g during the fast. I don't really have any breeding plans for her, so as long as she's healthy, she can eat at her leisure. ;)

Ehh..... I was just joking... didn't suggest she had to lose weight... or am I just being fooled with now?

Hah! No I understood, and I thought it was funny. That's why I threw in the Kate Moss reference. ;) The angry emoticon was directed at the breeder who double clutched a female that was probably under 200g at the start of breeding season. Having the "proven" breeder female that I paid top ghost dollar for show up on my doorstep at 100g didn't make me happy.

Phew, I did expect you too know me better by now.... Just wanted to be sure... Guess I just have to go to sleep to refresh my 'know who you are talking too'- antenna :grin01:

Of course double clutching such a girl is awefull, even single clutching would have been doubtfull at least :sidestep: I would give her a year off indeed too. I felt the same when the former owner of my yellow rat told me he bred her for 4 years in a row while she didn't gain weight on a 2-3 mice a week diet, weighing 325 grams at 4,5 feet length when I got her in November.... back then I was too much of a noob to realise the guy was not an expert caring for a 'handicapped' snake but probably just a nut not wanting to spend money on a vet. She gained weight at my place on half the amount of mice, but in a better viv with hides and not cramped in a 'portrait' viv with a giant male and an anery female. Now after having won over a RI and then a bacterial stomach infection with heavy worm infestation, she is on a 1 mice every 6 days regaining weight diet and will only, if ever, breed again when se weighs at least 450 grams.

Sorry for this long, off topic story but it just came on when reading about your feelings towards the former owner of your ghost...

My gravid female sounds like yours. She hasn't eaten more than 3 times since she came out of brumation. She's bred 4 times and I think she's pregnant. It's hard to tell. Half the time I think she is....the other I don't. She's getting ready to shed, so time will tell if she really is pregnant. She was almost 360 grams out of brumation but I'm sure she's not put on an ounce and has only gained weight with what I hope is eggs. If she is too underweight and doesn't get on a strong eating program after this clutch, I will definitely give her next year off. To be fair though with yours, sometimes these girls will double clutch even without breeding them again.
