Could i keep my mice and shredding from a paper shreder? i work at an office building, so could i just use the stuff from the paper shredder?

I'd say that for nesting material it would be ok, but not as a whole substrate. Paper just doesn't absorb enough liquid. Mice are pooping and peeing machines! I think it would stink really fast. Stick with aspen mixed with hay, or Carefresh.

my mice are on aspen mixed with 25% care fresh, and news paper sheddign in the nesting boxes.

I used shreded printer paper when I first started (got it from work), It worked fine, just smelt bad after the first day, Its also kinda nasty looking, I Mix it with my bedding sometime when I dont have time to pick some more up.

If you put a thin layer of cat litter on the bottom of your tank the shredded paper won't smell as bad. It still will get covered in pee, but the cat litter will absorb the smell and moisture.

Yep, shredded paper works good for bedding.I usually just tear mine up, as I do not have access to a paper shredder!

it's amazing what prehensile appendages can accomplish

I use about 10% shredded paper in all of my enclosures. The paper seems to add fluff and I like the fact that I can do something useful with paid bills and junk mail.

Each week I go through 2 of the big black trash bags of shredded paper (from a cross cut shredder). Ive found the smaller pieces work better. It also seems to help in the compost process as the paper is much easier to break down than wood bedding.
