Best way to pick up the snake

What's the best way to pick up the snake for handling? Wer'e talking about a tiny hatchling here. In fact, it's a little smaller than most normal hatchlings.

The snake seems calm when I am holding it. But when I got to pick it up it is a little nervous and I worry I may hurt it by picking up incorrectly.

Do it like you mean it. The more you piss around, the more likely you are to hurt it.

Decide to pick it up and then do so!!!!

YEAH!

I'm pumped up after that :D

In all seriousness, I agree. Just try to avoid reaching right towards its head, because snakes can tend to feel like a predator is after them in that situation. Other than that, just go for it and don't squeeze too hard :eek1:

What I mean is, do I pickit up from the back? Do I scoop it up from the side? Do I pick it up from halfway down its body? That kind of thing.

Well.....from the side and in the middle of the body. How else would you pick up what looks like a fragile little noodle that moves??

I have handled hatchlings thousands of times, from tiny kinked ones to nasty biting ones. I have picked them up in every way imaginable, including with them trying to swallow my finger. I have never hurt one picking it up. Hatchlings are much more hardy and robust than you are giving them credit for. I can only think of one way to pick one up that is really bad, and that is by the tip of the tail.
