Quarantine?

Okay...questions about quarantine for new arrivals to one's collection.

If you don't plan on housing 2 snakes together, what constitutes quarantine - separate rooms? x number of weeks separated before mating?

Do you guys always wash your hands between handling one snake & the next (or snake stuff like hides & dishes) - or is that a quarantine-only concern for you?

How long do you quarantine & under what circumstances?

thanks!

Well....i would certainly wash ur hands between handling different snakes, because you might end up with a few bites!
i dont THINK its nessecary to wash between changing dishes but with only one snake i wouldnt know much about that.
Hope i helped!

yes

During a true qaurantine you should keep your snakes apart for quite some time. I keep my new arrivals in a seperate room for 6 months. Of course you could do this for much less time, with a vet check and be fine most likely. You want to make sure nothing is "hiding" in one snake that can be passed to another.

And yes you would wash your hands when even changing another dish. You would take care of one, then fully wash your hands, and take care of the next, then fully wash your hands.

I quarantine for 90 days no matter who I get the animal from.
Longer if I thought there was a need for it. I also use a seperate room/s.

For cleaning I use disposable gloves that I get at the dollar store.
If I had to wash my hands after every water bowl clean/change they would be raw:) I'm cleaning up almost 40 water dishes & cages.

I usually use hand sanitizer when I handle more then one snake.
Washing after I'm finished.

I also nag my kids about washing up after holding the snakes or any animal:D

yes

I actually use surgical gloves, latex gloves whatever they are called. This makes the hand washing a bit less so my hands don't get raw either like you mentioned! :)
