What are some of the best things i could feed 2 mother mice??


i went to the local petstore yesterday to get an assortment of mice for food...

and well 2 were pregnant.. 1 gave birth late last night... to 19!! babies :|

and the other one looks about ready to pop.. so im searching for some nutricional extras i can feed them.. because if the other momma has a litter near that size.. i fear they wont be able to feed 35+ babies!.. so i thought any extra bennificial food will do them good

What do you all do in this situation??

Lots of protein in their diet is very helpful. Things like soymilk (which they love) and hard boiled eggs really helps a lot. Dont give too much yolk though as its high in cholesterol. Some meat product is also beneficial. Hope this helped!

a good high protein lab block as a staple, and supplement with high protein items as mentioned above. I also feed them small amounts of dry puppy food which is high in protein (27%) and fat which is needed by nursing females.

The best thing is a good quality lab block. Around 18% protein 8-10% fat. If you have a use for pinks I'd pull some leaving only around 8 per female. Most likely the mice will control their numbers anyhow ...

I supplement my females with carbs ... pasta, cereal, oats, etc.

Protein is one of those things that can be good or bad ... too high they cannibalize the litter, too low they cannibalize their litter.

Calcium supplements are also a plus ... chicken and turkey bones will help (while adding a little protein), fresh fruits and veggies also. I use carrots, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, apples, and pears. Citrus is bad for rats so I avoid that in mice ... as is cabbage ... but I dont remember why.

Remember that mice are omnivores and do need some animal content in their diet. Alot of lab blocks have bone meal or animal tallow to fill this slot.
