not sure which forum to post this in but i`m amazed ..

after buying my first snake yesterday i settled kelloggs ( my son chose the name after he found out she was a corn snake and the first thing to come into his head was kelloggs corn snakes) into here vivarium to which she buried herself under the chips. after about 4 hours i suddenly noticed a little head pop up to the glass and look out into the room.
now today ive not seen her since i got up this morning and was told by the reptile shop i bought her from that she is fed at 5pm sundays and wednesdays so i defrosted a pinky in water and put it in a little deli dish and put it in vivarium , well after 45mins i checked for any movement and nothing, not a sign of her. so i looked in her hide and she was curled up all contented.
i wasnt too sure about touching her as id read about not touching her for 4 or more days after getting her but decided i`d pick her up and she seemed fine exploring my hands and poking her tongue out tasting all the time ( which is a good thing yes ? )
after a few mins in my hands i decided to introduce her to food container and she went straight over and after a brief second or 2 pause she started gulping the pinky down ,which was a bit worrying as she still had about 4" of her tail wrapped round my little finger.
now after eating the food she has got out of the container and has climbed up on a branch in her viv and is just laid there with a pinky size bump in her belly.

sorry for boring you all but i just wanted to post how amazing the first 24 hours have been and its going to be so hard to refrain from touching her for the next few days to allow her to settle fully into her new home.

my hatchling did the same thing. I picked her up to put in her deli cup for feeding and she wouldn't let go, just gulped down the pinky while still curled around my fingers.

As for the not handling, you should always allow 48 hours of no-handling after every feeding,

Congratulations! You just had about the most intimate experience you can have with your snake. I love it when they eat while you're holding them

When my snow corn was a hatchling, she wouldn't eat unless she was wrapped around my fingers. Even if she was completely in the feeding box, once she grabbed the pinky, she would feel around with her tail until she found something to wrap around. She seemed almost panicky until she could anchor her tail, so I would stick my hand in the feed box to give her something to hold on to. Somethimes she would back all the way into my hands and eat there.

She eventually outgrew that behavior.
