Do you have something for substrate?

YES, you do need to know the temperature. Your UTH needs to be regulated with a rheostat or a thermostat. You can search for both of those words on this forum and get more information and ideas.
You also need a reliable digital thermometer to make sure things are at the correct temp. These types of thermometers are only ~7-8 US dollars, so not too expensive. Any type of indoor/outdoor thermometer with a probe that you find at either a home and garden type store or a Walmart type store should work.

Place the probe of the thermometer under the substrate on the warm side. The temps on the warm side should be 80-85F. To get Celsius subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature and multiply by 5/9...80-32(5/9) = 27C

You can use that conversion for any F temp. To get F from Celsius just multiply the C temp by 9/5 and then add 32.
